Spikeball
This year we put a big effort into teaching 6th class boys and girls this new sport. Spikeball is a fun, action packed, child-friendly version of volleyball in which the only difference is that the second touch is a catch. Training began in January and as you can see from the photos below the pupils were really enjoying the game.
County Finals took place in Killarney at the end of February. We entered three strong teams - Girls, Boys and Mixed. Each group of spikeballers played a number of very competitive games and did themselves and the school proud. Hats off to our Boys' team who won out the competition and qualified for the National Finals - a first ever for Dromclough!

The National Finals took place in the University of Limerick in March. Our determined seven players took their place alongside all the elite of the country at this prestigious event.
With victories over schools from Cork, Galway, Dublin and Louth the boys went on to reach the All-Ireland semi-finals. They unfortunately lost out to the eventual champions from Kilkenny in this penultimate round.
Top 4 in Ireland - what a marvellous achievement and experience for this talented and skilful bunch.
