6th Class Pupils' Experiences of Lockdown March 2021
Living with Lockdown Again
Lockdown this time was a lot easier than the first time. This lockdown I found the Zooms with Mrs. Trench helped a lot because I could see my friends and talk to them. I didn’t meet any of my friends but I saw my cousins once. I usually went for walks with my family in the park or up and down my road. I went to the river Feale at the end of my road and threw stones in the river. I am happy to be out of lockdown and I hope it doesn’t happen again. Darragh
My Lockdown Experience
My lockdown experience was fun, crazy and I learned a lot of new things! I enjoyed this lockdown a lot more than the first one. I found new hobbies that I loved to do, such as drawing and baking. We had to do our schoolwork online and we had Zoom every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. I spent more time with my family this time as well. Every weekend we would play games and watch a movie together. I also went on a lot of walks and cycles when the weather was nice. I had a very enjoyable lockdown!!! Grace
My Life in Lockdown
This lockdown was easier than the first one, as we knew what to expect from it. We weren’t allowed to go anywhere, so I was mostly doing things at home. I have been trying to convince my dad to get me a hamster, but he keeps saying no because apparently I’m not responsible enough. Jenna-Louise
My Lockdown Review
Lockdown this time was better because we knew what to do. The weather was good until the end. That meant we had lots of time to go outside and play, walk and cycle. I went on lots of walks and I played football in my garden a lot. The online school was good. With the Zooms we could communicate and Seesaw was a lot easier too. Overall the second lockdown was much better than the first one, in my opinion. Mark
My Lockdown Experience
My experience during the second lockdown was different to the first lockdown. I found it a bit easier but also a bit monotonous at the same time. I was used to Seesaw and as well as that, we had Zoom classes to interact with other classmates and see them through the screen. I was also taking care of my kitten and playing with her much more often. Most of us have probably taken up a new hobby or activity. I have been baking and walking a lot more during the lockdown. I think most of us have been online more too. I was also texting my classmates a lot. I’m very glad to be in school now. I hope we don’t go back into a lockdown again! Joanna
My Second Lockdown Experience
My experience of the second lockdown was different to the first lockdown, because I knew more about technology. I also knew when we were coming back to school. During this lockdown I went for lots of walks with my family and I did lots of baking with my mom mostly. The favourite thing I made was chocolate chip cookies.
My family and I watched Ireland’s Fittest Family and it was very good. The homework was different this lockdown because we did weekly Zooms which was very helpful because the teacher explained the homework. We did lots of activities on the activity wheel during the Zooms to keep active. The positives about the lockdown was that I got to spend more time with my family and go outside more. I also got to spend more time with my dog and my cats. My cats are still kittens but they are good hunters. I also got to help my parents clean around the house. I don’t mind helping cleaning up.
Over all, this lockdown was easier than the first one. Medb
Everything on Pause
I thought that the last lockdown was very different to the first one because there was nothing happening and it was very monotonous. I made the most of anything that was happening. There was sport for the first lockdown but nothing for the second. We couldn’t see our friends or go anywhere. Ewan
My Second Lockdown Experience
Yes, this lockdown was a lot easier. We started Zoom and it was helpful. I learned more and I got better at Irish over time. I didn’t meet a lot of people but when I did, it was fantastic. I saw some friends now and then and I started playing some games and also talked to some friends on Zoom and FaceTime. I spent a lot of the time baking and playing outside with my neighbour at the 2 metre social distance. I loved going out to town with my parents and going with some friends to the park.
This is my second lockdown experience and I though it wasn’t too bad. Eoin
The Second Lockdown
This lockdown was different to the last one. I knew how to use Zoom and Seesaw. I picked up new hobbies such as baking, going for walks, farming and lots more. The Zoom classes helped with interacting with my friends. Ryan
My Life in the Second Lockdown
Sometimes it was challenging but I was still able to talk to my friends on Zoom. I can tell you a positive thing is that everything was much easier because you eventually get used to everything and we knew how to properly use Seesaw. It could be boring but usually I watched a lot of movies to entertain myself. Another positive was you got to spend more quality time with your family. Orla
Staying at Home
Lockdown was easier the second time round because I wasn’t expecting to go back to school and the government didn’t make empty promises so I wasn’t as disappointed when they had to extend it.
At this point I think everyone started to get the idea that we would have to get used to this thing called “staying at home”
There were some positive things about Covid. I got to see my grandparents a lot more and my dad came down more often because he could work from our home here in Kerry instead of in Wicklow. But I didn’t get to see my other grandparents or my older sister up in Wicklow.
In conclusion, lockdown was alright even though it felt like we were all falling down a never ending pit into nothingness.
I didn’t catch Covid, so that’s a plus. Isabelle
Living with Lockdown
Lockdowns are horrible and no fun without sports and having to wear a mask all the time. It was very, very, very boring. I think the second lockdown was better because in the first lockdown I didn’t meet up with my friends at all. School work was different. We had to send in pictures of all our work. Overall lockdown is very bad for people’s mental health and more people are deciding to stay indoors because of it. The government are just concentrating on coronavirus although there are much worse sicknesses. I think lockdown is much worse than coronavirus. Marcos
My Lockdown
I had a nice lockdown. During lockdown I went for lots of walks with my family and my new golden retriever puppy named Barney. I also learned how to make apple pie and bread. My favourite part of lockdown was rock painting. It was my favourite part because I sat outside listening to the birds sing while I was painting. Although I had a good lockdown, I was looking forward to going back to school and meeting my friends in real life instead of seeing them online. Katie
The Second Lockdown
In the second lockdown, thankfully no one that I know died. I took up a new hobby. I took up carving branches with a small flip knife. I helped my grandad away more when we were at home. The lockdown message was to ‘stay safe and keep your 2 metre distance’ --------2m------- Cody
My Lockdown Days
The second lockdown was better than the first lockdown because we knew how to work Seesaw. There was no sport and no school but we had zoom classes. The weather was good and I played with my dog Max. Tadhg
School at Home
I got parcels in the post from Margaret with lots of activities to do. I had Zoom classes with Ms Ferguson. I did my exercises with mom. I listened to my music on the I-pad and I had fun on the trampoline. Gráinne
Good and Bad
During this lockdown there were some negatives but also a lot of positives. I recently moved into Listowel and I’ve been loving it so far. I have done a lot of things such as going to the park, seeing my friends and doing work. The bad thing about lockdown is you can’t see your family and friends as much. This lockdown has been much easier than the first one because we knew what to do and school work was a lot easier. Aidan
Lockdown Again
Lockdown was not the way I had hoped to start 2021.
This lockdown was not as hard as the first one. I have become more used to online school work. However, not seeing my cousins and grandad and nana was hard. Every Friday night we would get a take out like pizza and watch a movie with my whole family. The first lockdown was harder than the last because we all had an idea about what was coming in the second. I like being back to school, seeing my friends and it is easier to do work at school instead of doing it all at home. I hope we don’t have another lockdown any time soon again. Róisín
My Experience of Lockdown
During the second lockdown we were back to schoolwork online through Seesaw. My class had zoom classes every week and I thought it was good because I could see my friends and my teacher again. The weather was mostly bad with rain and wind but when the weather was good, I went for walks with my family. Sometimes I played online with my friends and that was fun. I wish that we could have met up with our friends in person but at least we are back to school now and hopefully there will be no more lockdowns for the rest of the year! Caoimhe
My Lockdown Experience
There was a second lockdown this winter. It wasn’t as bad as the first one. I got a puppy and I could meet my friends outdoors. My puppy’s name is Ted. He is a Labrador Retriever. The hardest part was probably online school. We had Zoom classes three times a week. I was also able to talk to my friends online. Over all it wasn’t terrible but I’m glad it’s over. Eoghan
My Life in Lockdown
My life in lockdown was strange, not meeting anyone. There was no school as we needed to flatten the curve of the coronavirus. I was busy on my dad’s farm as two of the cows calved. I was feeding the cows in the mornings. We got a new tractor called a Tumosan and it’s a fine big machine.
At the weekends, my family and I went on walks up the road and around the sports field in Lixnaw. We also got takeaways every second Friday either from Jumbos or Mama Mia. I liked the snack boxes.
It was strange home-schooling but I knew what to do as I was in the same situation a year before. So that was my experience of life in lockdown. Joseph
My Lockdown Experience
My experience in the second lockdown was much easier than the first due to the organisation of schools and businesses. People have developed better coping skills from the first lockdown. Zoom and Seesaw have helped children to communicate and to interact with their teachers and peers. I used my time to spend with my family and developed new skills such as cooking and arts and crafts. As the weather was nice, I made use of the time and took leisurely strolls around the farm and helped with the farm tasks as spring is such a busy time of year on the farm. We are getting close to when the restrictions will be lifted and we will be reunited with all our friends and family. Eimear
The New Normal
The second lockdown was not as bad as the first, in my opinion. We could not go anywhere or meet up with friends and family, yet it was still better than 2020.We knew there was going to be another lockdown after Christmas and obviously it wasn’t going to be over in less than a month. Being stuck at home all the time can be a bit annoying but at least we could go for a walk in the park or just around where we live and read a book. These are just some of the things that kept me busy during the second lockdown. Katelyn
