Working with Pupils
ASF Committee
Every year, a new set of eager and willing boys and girls are chosen to represent their peers on the Active School Committee. They become the voice for sport and fitness in the school and are given various tasks to complete throughout the academic year. These jobs include:
- organising circuit training every Tuesday/ Thursday and putting the equipment away again after
- communicating active news with the rest of the school either at Assembly or over the intercom
- undertaking a P.E. equipment audit every year
- ensuring the sports storage room is kept tidy on a regular basis
- attending committee meetings twice per term
- planning a full list of events for Active School Week
- promoting Dromclough is an active school in the local and wider environment
Current provisions for health and fitness would not have made possible without the efforts of past pupils who worked diligently on the ASF committee during their time in Dromclough N.S.

ASF Slogan
As we embarked on our journey to earn a 2nd Active School flag for high levels of engagement with physical activity, we worked together, as a school, to find and agree on a new ASF slogan.
We received over 20 entries and, after much deliberation amongst our children's committee, they decided on a winner in each of the Junior and Senior categories.
Well done to Mary Reidy (Rang 6) and Isabelle McEnery (Rang 2) creators of the winning slogans - each received an active reward for their efforts.

Committee members collected and analysed the information.

Further to this, 5th and 6th class pupils conducted a "What Club Are You In?" survey to highlight physical activity opportunities in the local community. They gathered the information and tallied it. They then decided to represent the results as a bar chart. It clearly identifies the various clubs in our locality.
Working with Parents
Parents' Survey
In February 2020, we asked parents to answer questions based on their knowledge of the P.E. curriculum and how they felt their child was doing in this area of their learning at school.
The results of the survey made for some interesting information:
Data also provided evidence of areas we can improve on in the future:

Izzy's Magical Football Adventure
Recently, we were delighted to welcome Emma Larkin in to talk about the launch of her wonderful children's novel "Izzy's Magical Football Adventure". Mrs. Larkin visited some of the classes in the school and read parts of her book much to the children's delight. She also spoke about her love for sport and fitness and how important it is to maintain a healthy lifestyle from a young age.
Emma kindly donated copies of her novel to the school which were snapped up by eager readers immediately. She also gave out colourful bookmarks highlighting Izzy and her adventures to all the children.
