Active School Week is the central event of the ASF process. For many pupils, it is the most enjoyable week of the whole school year. It epitomises everything that is good about health and fitness in education and takes the attention of the entire school community for the full five days.

Each year, in late April/ early May, Active School Week takes place. A timetable of events is planned and organised by the ASF committee members. We make sure that these activities are accessible by all pupils in all classes as tracksuits replace uniforms for the duration of the week.

Some of the most popular activities during ASW each year include:
  • Circuit training every morning
  • Taster sessions provided by local sports clubs and physical activity providers
  • Whole school Soccer Tournament
  • Pupils vs Teachers Fun Challenge Match
  • Sports-for-All Day

As well as all of this, pupils complete physical activity homework tasks each evening as balls and runners replace pencils and books for the week.

Active School Week culminates with Sports-for-All Day where pupils are taught a variety of P.E. lessons and new sports from all the teachers in the school. Parents are invited to come and join in the fun on this special day. Tug-of-War, dodgeball and novelty races are always considered some of the most popular activities to take part in.

Also, Sports-for-All Day is the only fundraiser the school runs each year. All money raised go back into the school equipment fund which helps to pay for expenses such as buses to matches, coaching fees and in particular the purchase of P.E. equipment and resources of which we have invested in heavily in recent years.

A review of Active School Week is completed by staff every year in the aftermath to ensure planning for future improvements can be made.
