Friday 12th May 2017 - Dromclough N.S. raises its very first Active School Flag. Included in the photo are: ASF coordinators and teachers Mr. K. Enright (l) and Mr. K. Stack (r), senior pupils who formed the committee and local Kerry Senior footballer Shane Enright who helped to raise the flag.

The Active School Flag - the sporting version of the more widely renowned Green Flag - is bestowed on schools for their efforts in promoting physical education and physical activity within the school that values the needs of all. It gives children an opportunity to develop a love for sport and living a healthy lifestyle as they are encouraged to take part in a minimum of 60 minutes physical activity per day. Establishing links and partnerships with other supportive groups, clubs and agencies that cater for physical education provision is also a key feature of the project. The process aims to get more schools, more active, more often.

Since receiving our active school flag the school has made many more developments and improvements in the areas of sport, fitness and physical activity.

We now are in the process of working towards our 2nd flag in the current school year.

The Active School Flag is divided into four clear sections:
1. Physical Education
2. Physical Activity
3. Partnerships
4. Active School Week
Each segment is further sub-divided to highlight the various initiatives we undertake as part of our well established and recognised sports programme here in Dromclough N.S.

The past twelve months have been difficult for all but nevertheless here in Dromclough we have endeavored to keep fit and healthy to the best of our abilities. This began in April 2020 with our unique and very special Active HOME Week events and has continued into the new school year with non-contact physical activities and innovative PE lessons that are safe to take part in, meet all the health guidelines but, best of all, they are still loads of fun and have our pupils enjoying P.E.!

Please feel free to browse through the website to view some of the activities that are taking place.

Active School Week 2021 will run from 26th April - 30th April 2021.

And always remember our motto: "Be wise and exercise!"
