The Active School Flag - the sporting version of the more widely renowned Green Flag - is bestowed on schools for their efforts in promoting physical education and physical activity within the school that values the needs of all. It gives children an opportunity to develop a love for sport and living a healthy lifestyle as they are encouraged to take part in a minimum of 60 minutes physical activity per day. Establishing links and partnerships with other supportive groups, clubs and agencies that cater for physical education provision is also a key feature of the project. The process aims to get more schools, more active, more often.
Since first registering for the programme, our school has made many developments and improvements in the areas of sport, fitness and physical activity.
We are now the owners of two active flags - one which hangs proudly out the front of the school with the other drapped on the wall of our sports hall..
The Active School Flag is divided into four clear sections:
Each segment is further sub-divided to highlight the various initiatives we undertake as part of our well established and recognised sports programme here in Dromclough N.S.
